EXPERIENCE AND EXPERTISE

PSM provides a complete investigation and design service for embankment dams whether for water supply or tailings storage. Services include:

• hydrological analysis for planning and spillway design,
• geotechnical site investigations including on site laboratory geotechnical testing and investigation of hydrogeological characteristics,
• sizing of coffer dams and temporary diversion works based on hydrological risk assessment,
• detailed design of embankments for static and earthquake loadings, and
• specifications and documentation for contract purposes.

Our work in water supply and tailings dams is headed by Mr Bill Meynink. Other key personnel involved are Dr Philip Pells and Dr Gareth Swarbrick.

PSM was responsible for the design and supervision of the Nakan Waste Storage Dam at the Kelian Gold Mine in East Kalimantan. This storage system comprises three major embankments:

The main personnel involved were Bill Meynink, who was responsible for hydrology; spillway design; tailings disposal and management, and Philip Pells, who was responsible for embankment dam design, specifications and documentation.

As seen in the table below, between 1993 to 2008, PSM has been responsible for the design and/or construction supervision of approximately 20 large embankment dams.
